Elixir 2.5 is available

What is new

  • Next alarm widget: opens the alarms screen by default instead of date settings, needs SET_ALARM permission
  • Reboot toggle: choice list with OK button and a new Shutdown option
  • Statusbar icon can display internal storage usage
  • Device information: the telephony row can display information about WiMAX network if available

New reboot dialog

The new dialog contains a choice list where you can select the reboot mode and you have to click on the OK button to do reboot.

 

The reboot toggle now works on devices which don’t have a built-in reboot system command.

Order processes by network traffic

If you order processes by network traffic then total, received and transmitted traffic will be displayed for every processes.

 

The order by current network traffic option displays and uses the total traffic since this screen appears so this feature
is good for determining which processes uses network right now.

New information available in Android 3.0, 3.1, 3.2

Elixir now displays a lot of new information and has new possibilities available only in Android 3.0 or newer. Some of the properties are optional so not necessary available on your device.

In Android 3.0:

  • Device information screen:
    • audio row: displays if device has vibrator or not
    • camera row: displays preferred preview video size and supported video sizes
    • display row: displays user rotation and preferred icon size
    • external storage row: can detect if storage is emulated or not
    • input row: can open input method subtypes settings system screen
    • memory row: displays large limit
    • sync row: displays is always syncable and parallel sync properties
    • telephony row: can detect eHRPD, LTE networks and SIP phone type
  • Software information screen:
    • displays mime type and label of clipboard content
    • displays available DRM engines
    • displays auto time zone settings
    • can detect faketouch feature
  • Applications screen:
    • displays LARGE_HEAP, SUPPORTS_XLARGE_SCREENS and STOPPED flags
    • displays external cache, data, media and obb size

In Android 3.1:

  • Device information screen:
    • input row: can detect joystick, gamepad classes
    • usb row: this new row displays information about connected usb devices
  • Software information screen:
    • can detect usb accessories and usb host features
  • Applications screen:
    • displays received and transmitted packets

You can see the new USB row on the screenshot below. If an external device is connected to your device via USB then Elixir can display information about it.

 

In Android 3.2:

  • Device information screen:
    • displays bluetooth network properties
    • can detect HSPA+ network type
  • Software information screen:
    • displays screen width, screen height and smallest screen size configuration properties and can detect television mode
    • can detect faketouch distinct, faketouch jazzhand, screen portrait and screen landscape features
  • Applications screen:
    • displays compatible width limit, largest width limit and requires smallest width properties

Disable background of widget popups

Open the widget editor for shortcut or statusbar widgets and click on the configure icon in the header. You can hide background by enabling the Hide window background option.

 

Sorting applications by network traffic

On the applications screen click on the list icon in the header and select the Sort by network traffic option. If applications are sorted by network traffic then total, received and transmitted network traffic are displayed for every applications.

 

Change reboot commands

If built-in reboot commands don’t work for you then you can set device-specific commands. If you use the reboot toggle then these commands will be executed. To change commands click on the reboot icon and press the Settings button. A new screen appears where you can modify default commands. If you set an empty text as a command then that option will be removed from the dialog.

 

Change widget icon sizes

On the widget editor screen you can change icon sizes by the Icon size property. There are 6 options to choose from.
The image below displays the same widget with 4 different settings.

 

New e-mail account dialog

The new use e-mail as username setting is needed to access Gmail for Google Apps accounts. These accounts uses the whole e-mail address as username and it was not possible in Elixir before. The show password checkbox is useful if you would like to check if the entered password is correct or not.

 

Display choices dialog for brightness and screen timeout toggles

On the widget editor screen if you long click on the brightness or screen timeout toggle then you can select the Set open dialog
option to enable this new feature. If this option is enabled then clicking on the toggle will open a dialog with the predefined levels to choose from. You can set these levels too in the same way.

  • Statusbar transparent icon is on right so it is invisible now

Reboot modes

If you click on the reboot toggle then a popup window appears where you can select reboot mode.

 

Save and restore volume settings

If you open the volume dialog from a widget or the main application and click on the More or the Menu button then a menu appears and you can select Save to save your volume settings or Restore to restore the saved settings.

New widget types

The USB mass storage toggle can enable and disable mass storage functionality if your device is connected via an USB cable.

 

The Reboot toggle can be used only in rooted devices and reboots your device.

 

Set long click actions on Device information screen

You can set actions what should happen when you long click on a row. If you haven’t set any action yet then the following dialog appears and you can set the action if you click on Ok. If you have set an action and long click on the row then that action will be executed. You can delete long click action by clicking simple on a row and selecting the Clear long click action option.

 

Sorting applications by name, last update time or size

On the applications screen if you click on the list icon in the header you can select sorting modes now. If applications are sorted by last update time then the last update time is displayed in every row instead of sizes.

 

Filter Top screen

You can filter processes by clicking on the search button of your device or the list icon in the header and selecting the Set text filter option.

Display Top in list and text mode

Output of top command can be displayed in original text mode and you can send it via e-mail too.

 

USB tethering

There is new USB tethering toggle that can be used in widgets and can turn tethering on/off if your device is connected via USB cable.

 

You can toggle tethering on the Device information screen too by clicking on the Wi-Fi row and selecting Turn USB tethering on/off.

 

Custom image backgrounds in widgets

If you would like to set a custom image for your widget then open the widget editor, set custom image as background and click on the Select… button under the background property. You can pick an image but be sure not to select a very large image because it can cause memory problems.

A new downloadable Metrodroid icon pack and 4 built-in widget background are available by Emoryy. Thank you for them.

If you would like to use this pack then open the widget editor screen, click on the right arrow icon in the header and select the Customize icons option. You can create a new pack an download the metrodroid pack by selecting the Get icon pack from Web option from the header.

 

Volume dialog

You can add a new volume icon to a widget that can display the current volume settings of the selected stream.

 

If you click on the icon then the volume dialog appears where you can change volume settings. You can open this dialog via shortcut too if you add an Elixir / Screen: Change volume shortcut to your home screen.

 

Application names can be displayed/hidden

If you organize your applications with Elixir then the applications popup window now displays application names by default but you can turn it off by clicking the Menu button, selecting Settings and unchecking the Show labels option.
